Small caps round-up: Tinci, Psion, Cryptologic

Date: Friday 09 May 2008

LONDON (ShareCast) - Environmental engineering company Tinci said it has seen a turnaround in its business during the second half of 2007.

Profit before tax for the year reduced to RMB6.14m (Chinese yuan) versus RMB12.38m previously on turnover that fell slightly to RMB260.6m from RMB277.7m.

“In view of the loss experienced in the first half of the year, the profit we have recorded for the full year marks a considerable improvement in Tinci's business during the second half of 2007,” said the group.

Psion said order intake in the first four months of 2008 has been strong and the mobile computing solutions firm expects that results for the first half will be in line with expectations.

The group said demand for its products, especially those addressing the Wide Area Mobile markets, is continuing to be buoyant.

“Subject to stable economic conditions, the group is well placed for long-term growth and improved returns to shareholders,” said chairman David Potter.

Silicon Valley-focused venture capital and consulting firm Berkeley Technology made a net loss of $0.4m in the first quarter versus a net profit of $0.7m a year ago.

It slip into the red was blamed on a $0.9m drop in realized investment gains, a $0.1m reduction in consulting fee income and a $0.1m fall in investment income due to lower interest rates and insurance policy maturities.

Shares in Zambezi Resources jumped after the group announced the discovery of a potentially significant VTEM anomaly at the 100% owned Kangaluwi Copper Project in Southern Zambia.

Plant Offshore, which provides support services for the renewable energy sector, said 2007 has seen significant growth with revenues exceeding its initial expectations. Pre-tax profit for the year rose 188% to around £2.3m on turnover that increased 233% to around £14m.
