LONDON (ShareCast) - Exhibitions group and business publisher Informa jumped after it confirmed that it has received a 506p proposal from a private equity consortium led by Providence Equity. Informa said the consortium, which also includes The Carlyle Group and Hellman & Friedman, had made a preliminary 506p per share bid on 26 June. The group’s shares rose 11% in today's trading.

Taylor Wimpey lost almost half of its value on Wednesday after the housebuilder admitted that it has failed to secure a deal with existing and potential investors to raise further equity capital.

"In light of current market conditions we have not been able to conclude a satisfactory transaction," it said. The group had been expected to announce an injection of £500m.

Fellow housebuilders Barratt, Persimmon, Bellway, and Bovis also slipped.

Newspaper group Johnston Press falls back after Citigroup lowered its rating on the Scotsman and Yorkshire post publisher to ‘sell’ from ‘hold’ and cut its price target on the stock to 43p from 88p, in the wake of Trinity Mirror’s Monday profit warning.
