LONDON (ShareCast) - Conroy Diamonds and Gold’s chairman and founder Professor Richard Conroy brought his holding in the company close to 10% with the purchase of 1m shares, the company revealed today.

He bought 63,000 shares at 4.2p and 937,000 at 4.75p, or a total of £47,622. The purchase takes his holding in the company, which is exploring for gold on the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, to 10.25m shares, which is about 9.7% of the company.

Shares in Conroy Diamonds and Gold gained 24% after it reported indicated resources of 440,000 ounces at its Clontibret project.

Conroy founded the company, which also has exploration licenses in Finland, in 1995.

He is an emeritus professor of physiology in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and has served two terms as a senator in the country.
