HMRC to appeal Rank tax rebate

LONDON (ShareCast) - Bingo hall operator Rank said today that Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has appealed against a tribunal’s decision in favour of Rank’s £36.3m claim for VAT paid on interval bingo.

The tribunal decided that the payment of VAT on these games contravened the European Union's law of fiscal neutrality.

The High Court is expected to consider the appeal during 2009.
