LONDON (ShareCast) - The lower oil price has given travel stocks a boost. Budget airline easyJet is up by more than 10%.
Its rival, Ryanair, is also higher, as is British Airways. Elsewhere, cruise operator Carnival and the travel agents Thomas Cook and TUI Travel post gains.
However, metal prices have also fallen, dealing a blow to mining stocks. Gold prices fell for the third day in a row in London, dragging down Hochschild Mining and Patagonia Gold.
FTSE 100 miners are also down in line with lower copper prices. Anglo American, BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto are among the worst hit.
Platinum miners lose value as prices for the precious metal fall in line with a weak outlook for car sales, reducing demand for the platinum’s use in making catalytic converters. Aquarius Platinum and Platinum Australia are among the companies suffering.
