The satellite communications company said Emirates would instal GX Aviation high-speed broadband on Boeing's new 777X aircraft with deliveries scheduled from 2020. The deal is part of an agreement between Thales, the French electrical systems company, and the Dubai-based airline.
Emirates ordered the Boeing planes in 2013. At the time the $76bn (£58bn) order was the biggest in US commercial aviation history. The airline has spent more than $200m on connectivity for its airlines to meet increasing passenger demand for wi-fi while they fly.
Inmarsat said GX is the only service that guarantees minimum data to let passengers watch videos, browse the web and check social media as easily as on the ground.
