Thompson, whose intention to retire was announced back in April, will stay on as group FD until the recruitment of Ronchetti's successor has been completed and an orderly handover has taken place. This is expected to occur no later than 31 July 2018.
Ronchetti joined Halma as group financial controller in 2016 from Wolseley, where he was finance director of UK operations. Prior to that, he held several roles at Inchcape, culminating in his appointment as director of Strategic Projects.
Chief executive officer Andrew Williams said: "I am delighted that Marc will be Halma's next group finance director and joining the board. Since joining Halma, Marc has worked closely with Kevin Thompson and through this period and the recruitment process, he has demonstrated that he brings significant operational and corporate financial expertise to the group."
At 1210 BST, the shares were up 0.9% to 1,102p.
