His resignation, announced Thursday, will take effect from 1 October.
Chairman Bill Alexander said Sir Martyn has been a director since its inception in 1996.
“During this time his expertise and in-depth knowledge of the investment industry have been integral to the long-term success of the company and he has always kept the interests of shareholders uppermost in his mind.
“On behalf of the board, I would like to place on record my deep appreciation of Sir Martyn’s invaluable contribution during his tenure. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank him sincerely and to wish him well for the future.”
Alexander said the board has a succession plan in place and the search to find a suitable replacement is already at an advanced stage.
“The board is fully cognisant of the importance of identifying the right candidate to join the board and has engaged a specialist recruitment consultancy to assist us in achieving this objective.”
