OEICs

Guide: Fund Investing

What do they invest in

With more than 1,700 Unit Trusts and OEIC's managed by 170 management companies, there are a great many different types from which to choose.

Investments may be made into broadly based general funds covering an entire investment market, either in UK or overseas, a combination of markets, or in specialist funds which concentrate on specific themes or commercial activities, such as technology.

One of the main differences between OEIC's and Unit Trusts is that the former can have different classes of shares with different aims.

OEIC's offer some of the flexibility of split capital investment trusts, which allow investors seeking income to take maximum income at the expense of capital growth, and vice a versa.
