A STRONG performance by the US team in the World Cup helped boost the performance of five-a-side business Goals Soccer Centres.

The firm, which runs 44 centres in the UK, said the performance of the Jurgen Klinsmann’s men - including goalkeeping hero Tim Howard - has given it the confidence to expand in the US.

Currently, Goals has a centre in Los Angeles and plans now to open another one next year in the city. 

The business reported a 9 per cent jump in first half profits to £4.4million while sales lifted 3 per cent to £17.1million

Following the completion of the balance sheet restructuring the group has now secured more efficient long term funding to finance its expansion plans for the UK and the US

Managing director Keith Rogers said: “Following the completion of the balance sheet restructuring the group has now secured more efficient long term funding to finance its expansion plans for the UK and the US.”

Goals has recently opened a centre in Newcastle and is building one in Manchester. Future openings are planned in the US and UK.

Its shares rose 9 1/2p to 222 1/2p.
