Mining giant Antofagasta has promoted mining division chief Diego Hernández as its new chief executive officer (CEO) and announced its executive chairman is set to take step back from operations.
Hernández joined the company as CEO of the firm's mining division, Antofagasta Minerals, in 2012. He joined from BHP Billiton where he was president of Base Metals Customer Sector.
Executive chairman Jean-Paul Luksic was appointed in 2004 and will now take a non-executive role with effect from 1st September.
Senior independent director William Hayes said: "On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Jean-Paul for his service to the group as executive chairman over the last ten years.
"Although Jean-Paul has decided to step back from the day-to-day operation of the business, we are delighted that he has reaffirmed his commitment to continuing to lead the Board as non-executive chairman."
