IMI appoints SSE's Lord Smith of Kelvin as new chairman
IMI has announced it will appoint Lord Smith of Kelvin as its new chairman following Roberto Quarta’s decision to step down.
The shuffle will come into affect after the company’s annual general meeting, which takes place 7 May 2015.
Lord Smith of Kelvin is currently chairman of the UK Green Investment Bank and has been chairman of SSE for the last 10 years. He will step down from SSE on 23 July 2015, earlier than the utility group had planned.
IMI chairman Roberto Quarta said: “As IMI moves into the next phase of its development and focuses on delivering accelerated top and bottom line growth, I am sure that he is the right person to chair the board. I wish him, Mark and everyone at IMI much success in the future."
Lord Smith of Kelvin added: “I am very pleased to be taking on this role at such an exciting time. The group's new strategic direction is now embedded in all the businesses and I am looking forward to working with the board and the executive team to ensure that we deliver IMI's ambitious accelerated growth plan."
