Islamic State's second-in-command killed in Iraq air strike
Islamic States’s second-in-command Abdul Rahman Mustafa Mohammed, also known as Abu Alaa al-Afri, was killed on Wednesday in Northern Iraq, the Iraqi ministry of defence said.
He was inside a mosque in Tal Afar in the northwest province of Nineveh together with dozens of militants when a US-led coalition air strike killed him, although there was no official confirmation from the US military or the IS media.
Based on accurate intelligence, an air strike targeted the second in command of IS
“Based on accurate intelligence, an air strike by the coalition forces targeted the second in command of IS, Abu Alaa al-Afari,” the ministry said in a statement on its website.
The statement added that the coalition had been targeting key Islamic points in Iraq and Syria since September 2014.
The US state department had offered $7m for information on Afri last week.
