Huber, who stepped down as head of the IG Metall engineering union in 2013, will supervise the company's annual meeting that will take place at the Deutsche Messe AG Exhibition Grounds in Hanover on 5 May.
This appointment came after the company's Chairman Ferdinand Karl Piëch resigned on Saturday after 25 years as CEO and chairman of the supervisory board of the German company.

Piëch's decision followed internal battles related to the possible takeover of Toyota Motor and General Motors by the company.
“The mutual trust that is needed for successful cooperation no longer exists,” the company’s supervisory board said in a statement.
Nevertheless, Piëch will continue as a major investor in the company and will keep his seat at Porsche Automobil Holding's board.
Volkswagen made €200bn in revenue in 2014, and has more than 600,000 employees.
