Jihadi John's true identity revealed
The masked Islamic State (IS) militant known as “Jihadi John”, who appeared in a series of videoed beheadings has been named as Mohammed Emwazi.
He is a Kuwaiti-born British man in his mid-20s from West London previously known to British security services.
Emwazi first appeared in August 2014, in a video where he apparently killed US journalist James Foley. He was later believed to have been pictured in the beheading videos of US journalist Steven Sotloff, British aid worker David Haines, British taxi driver Alan Henning, and American aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig, also known as Peter.
Hostages released by IS said he was one of three British jihadists guarding abductees.
Emwazi was named a “person of interest” to MI5 back in 2010 due to his role is confidential court cases related to extremis in the UK and internationally.
British intelligence said it is unlikely he will ever return to the UK.
