US unemployment claims rise by less than was expected
Initial US unemployment claims rose by less than economists had forecast in the latest week.
Over the seven days ending on 25 July initial claims increased by 12,000 to reach 267,000, according to the Department of Labour.
Economists at Barclays had been expecting a reading of 275,000.
The four-week moving average slipped by 3,750 to reach 274,750.
Secondary unemployment claims, those which are not filed for the first time and referencing the week before, jumped by 46,000 to hit 2.262m.
