Before the bookmaker halted betting on Greece's future, it offered 3/1 odds on a Grexit this year, compared with rival Paddy Power's odds of 11/8.
"In such a volatile situation in which events can move very quickly it is very difficult to be confident that our odds are accurate," William Hill's spokesperson Graham Sharpe was quoted as saying by Business Insider.
"The only option people have been wanting to back for the past couple of days is that Grexit will happen this year and as we can no longer hope to balance our market, we have decided to pull the plug."
However, Greece remains William Hill's 1/3 favourite to be the first country to leave the European Union, with the UK second favourite at 4/1 and Hungary some way off in third place at 12/1.
Sector peer Ladbrokes is reportedly considering stopping taking bets on Greece.
