Ed Miliband: Leaving the EU would destabilise UK
Ed Miliband argued that leaving the EU would provide no political gain and could radically damage British business, in a speech to the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF) .
Miliband warned: “It is not in our national interest. It is not in the interest of British families. It is not in the interest of British business. That is why it is so wrong to play fast and loose with our membership of the EU.”
Miliband has pushed Prime Minister David Cameron to elaborate on his intended ‘renegotiation’ of the UK’s EU membership. Cameron did not go into detail on his wider goals, but has repeatedly said that he would cut the amount of social security support EU migrants receive.
It is not in our national interest. It is not in the interest of British families. It is not in the interest of British business.
Labour’s commitment to the EU remains one of the party’s most favoured policies by businesses.
Terry Scuoler, Chief Executive of EEF, said: “Ed Miliband’s clear support for manufacturing and engineering and its critical requirement for skills and innovation are welcome. If Labour is in power later this year they must seek to build on what’s worked well in the last few years – including sector industrial strategies, support for innovation and competitive business taxes.”
