Police face further allegations of VIP paedophile ring cover-up
New investigations into the involvement of corrupt police officers in an alleged VIP paedophile ring were launched on Friday.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission said 17 allegations of police cover-ups spanning from 1970s the to the present have surfaced.
The watchdog is looking into claims that an investigation into alleged child sex abuse committed by “MPs, judges, media entertainers, police, actors, clergy and others," and has already begun gathering evidence.
Criminal proceedings were allegedly interrupted two months into preparation, when an officer was called in by a senior Metropolitan Police officer and told to drop the case.
The IPCC said all the allegations relate to "suppressing evidence, hindering or halting investigations" and the "covering up the offences because of the involvement of members of parliament and police officers".
Six referrals were received from the Metropolitan Police relating to similar matters following the announcement of initial investigations last week.
