UK consumer confidence holds steady in February
British consumer confidence remained steady in February, a new survey has shown.
According to a report released on Friday by research firm GfK, low inflation and an increase in wages made Britons more confident about their finances.
GfK's consumer confidence index held at +1 in February, matching January's reading that was the highest since last August, but falling short of analysts' expectations of a +2 reading.
Analysts believe the current situation is likely to extend until May, with a sudden increase in confidence looking unlikely in the two and half months left before the general election.
"Unless there is some dramatic change in the indicators that get media coverage, or people start feeling significantly better off as inflation edges towards zero, it is hard to see any major change between now and the election," said Nick Moon, managing director of social research at GfK.
